BJP Lok Sabha member from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency, Shobha Karandlaje, has said that the proposed Hebbal steel flyover would destroy the greenery in the city.
"The flyover is sheeer waste of public money. Nobody wants it. Initially, the project cost was put at Rs 1,350 crore which was enhanced to Rs 1,800 crore. Now, we hear the cost may escalate to Rs 2,200 crore. Is it right to spend such a huge sum on a flyover for six-and-a-half kilometres," Shobha wanted to know.
She was addressing the members of BJPwomen's wing who staged a protest at Anand Rao Circle, against the proposed steel flyover, here on Thursday. The protesters hugged trees expressing their opposition to felling over 800 trees for the flyover.
