A team of officials from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike inspected shops on Commercial Street and in Cox Town to check for use of plastic bags.
Viji Karthikeyan, environmental officer, KSPCB, Bengaluru (East), said that the team seized 300 kg of plastic at Anand Sweets and slapped a fine of Rs 3.5 lakh on the establishment.
"This shop was warned against plastic use earlier also," she said.
On the other hand, the BBMPraided 118 shops in eastern Bengaluru and seized 858 kgs of plastic material. It also imposed a penalty of Rs 4.71 lakh.
The team of health officials from the Palike inspected shops and commercial establishments in Shivajianagar, C V Ramanagar, Pulakeshinagar and Sarvagnanagar divisions. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on Shobha Super Market.
