The Congress on Thursday backed the state government's decision to go ahead with the steel flyover project between Basaveshwara Circle and Hebbal.
Addressing a joint press conference in Bengaluru, KPCCworking president Dinesh Gundu Rao, YouthCongress state president Rizwan Arshad and Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said people of north Bengaluru were keen that the flyover came up as it would ease traffic in that part of the city.
During BJP regime
They said that though the project was first mooted and a detailed project report prepared during the BJPregime in 2010, the party was singing a different tune today. On BJPstate president BSYeddurappa's charges that the government was mobilising Rs 500 crore for party funds from the project, Rao sarcastically asked whether the BJP leader had developed an expertise in making such calculations by experience.
'Late reaction'
On the demand by several civic forums that the project be dropped, Byre Gowda wondered what they were doing when it was first mooted in 2010 and when the tenders were finalised.
