Two women are suspected to have been murdered by their husbands on the suspicion of having an extramarital affair.

In the first case, a 25-year-old woman is suspected to have been strangled by her husband at their house in Jaware Gowda Nagar in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, west Bengaluru, in the early hours of Tuesday.

Around 2 am, Chand Bi's husband, Basha, 29, picked a fight with her and strangled her in a fit of rage, police said. Hearing Chand Bi's screams, neighbours rushed to the house and caught Basha who was trying to flee. Police also reached the spot.

According to police, the couple is from Yadgir district and had come to Bengaluru in search of jobs. Chand Bi worked in a garment factory while Basha works as a painter.

During interrogation, Basha told the police that his wife frequently quarrelled with him and that he suspected her of having an affair.

In the other murder, a 29-year-old homemaker was found bludgeoned to death at her house in Chunchaghatta in Subramanyapura, south Bengaluru, on Monday. Urmila Devi was found lying in a pool of blood when her husband, Sanjay, returned home from work around 10 pm, police said.

Sanjay, a pani puri vendor, said he had left for work around 4.30 pm. When he came home, he found the main door ajar. He went in and was stunned to see his wife murdered. He called the neighbours for help.

'Unsatisfactory answers'

The jurisdictional Subramanyapura police, who questioned Sanjay, said he gave them "unsatisfactory" answers. They suspect him and have detained him for questioning. Sanjay is said to have caught his wife having an affair. The couple are from Uttar Pradesh.
